Rioplatense Spanish, from Genoese 'fugassa' · pronounced foo-gah-SSEH-tah
A Buenos Aires speciality: a cheese-stuffed dough base heaped with sliced onion and baked, with no tomato. Descended from Ligurian focaccia carried by Genoese immigrants, but the stuffed form is Argentine and has no direct Italian equivalent. 'Fugazza' is the unstuffed version.
