Style Finder

Tell PizzaHQ as much or as little as you like — oven, time, skill, thickness, texture, topping load, tomato or cheese, pan or direct bake. Every match shows the reasons it matched, where it compromises, and whether your kitchen can make it faithfully. No account, no AI black box.

Every question is optional. Answer only what matters to you — the more you answer, the sharper the ranking, but a partial answer still works.

How this works

Every answer you give adds or subtracts from each of PizzaHQ's published styles; nothing you leave blank counts for or against anything. Styles are ranked by the total, but the total is never shown — only the reasons behind it.

Texture preferences (crisp, soft, airy, chewy, charred) are judged from the same recorded evidence the 'what to try next' tool uses: crust structure, recorded textures, bake temperature and dough formula. A style is credited only when its record clearly points that way, faulted only when it clearly points the other way, and otherwise left alone.

Practical reality is read from PizzaHQ's equipment profiles, which state for each style whether it is strongly suited, workable with adaptation, compromised or unsuitable on that equipment. Where no profile covers a style, the style's own home-oven rating is used instead, and the result says which.

Assumptions

  • Scoring is additive and soft: a style that misses one wish but fits everything else can still rank highly, and the miss is listed as a compromise.
  • 'Prefer a documented traditional method' credits styles with a recorded traditional method to follow — it is not a judgement that one style is more authentic than another.
  • Time is judged from each style's recorded fermentation approaches: same-day, long room-temperature, or cold and preferment-based.

Limitations

  • The catalogue holds 57 styles; a style that is not catalogued cannot be recommended.
  • Texture judgements are orderings of recorded attributes, not measurements, and individual pizzerias vary.
  • 'Fermentation tolerance' is not asked separately: PizzaHQ records one fermentation axis per style, so it is covered by the time question.
