Post-war American presence carries pizza back into northern Europe

Pizza reached much of northern Europe not directly from Italy but via the United States — through American servicemen stationed in Europe after 1945, American commercial chains, and returning Italian labour migrants — which is why several northern European pizza cultures resemble American pizza more than Neapolitan pizza.
