I liked this — what should I try next?

Pick a pizza style you already enjoy, and optionally the way you would like the next one to differ. Every suggestion says what stays the same, what moves in your direction, what else changes, and what it costs you in equipment, skill and time — and a suggestion is only made when PizzaHQ’s recorded data actually supports the direction.

The directions, and what each one means here

Crispier
a firmer, crisper crust or base — the suggestion must itself record a recorded crisp, brittle or crunchy texture, or a crisp crust structure.
Softer
a softer, more tender or foldable crust — the suggestion must itself record a recorded soft, tender, fluffy, foldable, delicate or bread-like texture.
Thinner
a thinner pizza overall.
Thicker
a thicker, deeper pizza.
Airier
a lighter, more open crumb — the suggestion must itself record a recorded airy, open or fluffy crumb.
Chewier
more chew and pull in the crust — the suggestion must itself record a recorded chewy texture.
Less chewy
a more tender or brittle crust with less pull.
More charred
more blistering and char from higher heat — the suggestion must itself record a recorded charred texture or a bake above 400°C.
Less charred
an even golden bake with little or no char.
More tomato-forward
tomato carrying more of the flavour than cheese.
More cheese-forward
cheese carrying more of the flavour than tomato.
Lighter eating
less oil, less topping and less bulk.
Richer
more oil, more topping or more bulk.
Simpler
fewer components and fewer construction steps.
More topping-forward
a pizza built around a heavier topping load.
More crust-forward
a lighter topping load so the crust carries the pizza.
Easier in a home oven
rated more suitable for a domestic oven.
Easier for a beginner
more forgiving and rated at a lower skill level.
Quicker
a shorter dough schedule.
Pan-baked
baked in a pan or tray rather than on a surface.
Higher heat
a hotter, faster bake.
Less equipment
fewer specialist tools needed.
Something different
a style from a different family and country that still shares something with yours.

How this works

Each style is placed on simple axes derived from what PizzaHQ already records about it — crust structure, recorded textures, thickness, bake temperature, topping density, dough formula and suitability ratings. Nothing is measured, and no new claim is made.

A direction is a promise: a style is only suggested as, say, crispier if its recorded evidence puts it clearly further along that axis than yours. A style the catalogue explicitly records as moving the other way is never suggested.

Among styles that keep that promise, those that share more with yours rank higher, and those that bring costs you did not ask for (new equipment, a longer schedule, harder technique) rank lower.

Assumptions

  • Positions come from PizzaHQ's own style records: crust structure, recorded textures, thickness, bake temperature, topping density, dough formula, suitability ratings, and sauce and cheese associations.
  • A style's sensory profile, where one exists, adds its recorded textures to the evidence.
  • Confidence is lower when a move rests on only one or two recorded attributes, and higher when an authored PizzaHQ relationship records the same move.

Limitations

  • These are orderings of recorded attributes, not measurements — two pizzerias' versions of one style can differ more than two styles do.
  • Taste is personal: 'crispier' is a difference in the crust, not a promise you will prefer it.
  • More traditional is not offered: PizzaHQ does not rank styles by authenticity — its authenticity cases record positions, never verdicts.
