Gas is the better choice for almost everyone making pizza at home: it reaches the same useful temperatures in a fraction of the time, removes an entire skill from the process, and produces a result most people cannot reliably distinguish from wood-fired. Wood is the better choice if the fire itself is part of what you want, if you cook in long sessions where the two-hour preheat amortises, or if you specifically want the small smoke contribution that gas cannot provide. The honest framing is that the gap between these two is much smaller than the gap between either and a domestic oven.
